Valance sacrifices himself for Luke. Just like Vader would sacrifice himself for Luke. Valance loses a hand before he dies. They both ultimately achieve redemption by embracing Luke’s life-affirming worldview. I also thought it was great when Valance referred to himself and Vader both as “useful freaks.” His posture with Vader was bold and expressed his personal self loathing that Vader certainly shared but suppressed. If we look at this issue in the larger context of Star Wars as the story of Anakin Skywalker, it really reaches an astonishing level of profundity. When Vader was watching Luke get tortured to death by Palpatine maybe he was suddenly struck by the memory of Tyler Lucian and Valance the Hunter. That's always been my understanding, but I could be mistaken.

Anyway, Valance will be missed.Matthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14580725636327122073noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7266470995513648978.post-85099083830259336132016-02-16T22:18:00.998-06:002016-02-16T22:18:00.998-06:00A bit of unintentional foreshadowing and unknown t...
A bit of unintentional foreshadowing and unknown thematic resonance at the time is the lava beds; in our post-prequels world, Vader would certainly have something to say to himself about having chased his quarry there.

Blamhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07342343767763035991noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7266470995513648978.post-58875296190899625972016-02-13T20:47:35.121-06:002016-02-13T20:47:35.121-06:00I've said it before and I'll say it again,...I've said it before and I'll say it again, bring back Valance, Marvel!
