I was there in real-time, reading along as Spider-Man teamed up with Gambit and the Black Cat, during that storyline.

Bear in mind that I was like 14 or whatever when I read it, and I've never looked at it since, but I seem to recall the story itself wasn't that awful. It was a murder mystery, and it seemed to be Terry Kavanagh's attempt at setting up a new mystery villain like the original Hobgoblin. Of course, the Clone Sage began like a month later, and Kavanagh never revisited the character, leading to his becoming a punchline.

Mind you, I knew at that point that Kavanagh wasn't a good writer. His was consistently my least favorite Spider-Man title by a mile, and though I don't think I knew the term "hack" yet, I recognized him as one. So the fact that I actually found the story decent is kind of surprising, and why I feel like it must not have been that bad by Kavanagh's standards.

That said, I've never liked that Lance Bannon was killed in the story. He hadn't been much of a presence in the Spider-Man comics by then, but I remembered him from Roger Stern's original Hobgoblin stories and I liked him. Having him offed by a villain who turned out to become a joke was unfortunate.Matthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14580725636327122073noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7266470995513648978.post-73342893162855251542019-05-03T14:56:38.551-05:002019-05-03T14:56:38.551-05:00I would usually collect Marvel cards because they ...I would usually collect Marvel cards because they had useful info on the back. It sounds like these wouldn't have what I'm looking for, but maybe you could help me find the answers to the following questions:
1) Can Cannonball be hurt when he's blasting?
2) What is that sword that Magik has?
3) What about that weird energy-looking knife thingy that Psylocke has? What is that? Is it related to her telepathy?
4) Is Colossus as slow as he looks?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7266470995513648978.post-65998072818889482172019-05-03T02:58:47.024-05:002019-05-03T02:58:47.024-05:00At this point it seems Marvel wasn't really tr...At this point it seems Marvel wasn't really trying with it's cards, it was just putting product out there it thought the fans would buy? A shame, really, the earlier card series were much more enjoyable.

wwk5dAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
