Agree to disagree I suppose.

I've never seen Early Edition (hence it not being on the list). Is that the one with the newspaper from the future? I suppose I could look it up...it is! I never knew Kyle Chandler was in it.

I suppose I should add it to the numerous other shows I should watch (and thus would end up on this list). Show like The Wire, The Sopranos, Battlestar Galactica, Angel...and that's not counting the critically acclaimed shows I'm not watching that are currently on the air. If only I could retire so I could watch more TV...(glad to know I'm aspiring to be a very productive person when I get older.)

(Possible Spoilers)
@Spithead: I never really thought about it before but it would be interesting to see how Shu would adjust to normal life again.

Now I'm thinking about what point in time he was returned to. Was it like 10 seconds after he left? If so, would it all start feeling like a dream? Would he start believing it to be a dream? I suppose if he had some sort of physical item or scars to prove the experience happened then that would help...Dr. Bitzhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13568570859981368717noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7266470995513648978.post-60975522345136772042013-06-12T08:14:15.370-05:002013-06-12T08:14:15.370-05:00I recently re-watched Sports Night and it was unca...I recently re-watched Sports Night and it was uncanny how closely the "Natalie gets harassed by an athlete" storyline exactly synced up with several real-life scandals that happened later, most notably Brett Favre's. It's a good show, but I did get tired of the dramatic speeches that seemed to never end. Also, as someone who's lived in Texas for just over a decade, the Jeremy Goodwin character acting like Galveston was some sort of cowboy town was just ignorant. Also, they don't have their own TV stations in Galveston (they're part of the Houston metro), so good luck out there Natalie.

As for FNL, it might morph into a great show in seasons 3-4, but I'll never know. Season 1 was uneven, with some bad acting and a few tone-deaf episodes, and then I watched the first two episodes of season 2 and just decided I could live without it. I'm kind of surprised Early Edition didn't make the list. It wasn't the world's greatest show, but Kyle Chandler was great and Fisher Stevens and a few other solid actors made up the supporting cast. It was a fun little show that forever marked Chandler as "that guy who gets tomorrow's newspaper" in my head.Dobsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08884152078310514684noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7266470995513648978.post-84189959089747916392013-06-11T11:11:46.433-05:002013-06-11T11:11:46.433-05:00I've had NATHAT on my list for years but still...I've had NATHAT on my list for years but still haven't tackled it. Same, actually, for Trigun, though i have seen and episode here and there.
I feel like i need to go back and see your list in it's entirety because i can't quite remember if some of my faves made your list or notSarah Ahiershttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02795455714801965956noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7266470995513648978.post-18035456739440482872013-06-10T18:53:49.648-05:002013-06-10T18:53:49.648-05:00Loved NATHAT. Though one thing that thing that always irked me
(POSSIBLE SPOILER)

I've always wished they would have done one more episode showing Shu trying to readjust to his normal life, cause frankly, optimistic or not, no one goes through an experience like that and comes out the same person.Spitheadhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08434638331512076136noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7266470995513648978.post-54595707685097014372013-06-10T16:48:16.947-05:002013-06-10T16:48:16.947-05:00It was Friday Night Lights. That was the one in yo...It was Friday Night Lights. That was the one in your top 5 I couldn't figure out. Though I should have.

Love Sports Night. If I ever did a ranking like this, it would be right near the top as well.

FNL is on that ever growing list of acclaimed shows I need to watch someday. Someday...

Buffy, duh, that'd be high up on my list too, especially since I don't dislike season six as much as you do (not that I love it or anything, mind). Though I do constantly go back and forth as to whether I'd put Angel ahead of Buffy, mainly because I came to Buffy after both I and the characters were out of high school so I tend to enjoy the "horror as a metaphor for adolescence" stuff on a more intellectual level.

I suppose the same could be said about Lost but Lost’s valleys were bottomless pits…

That's a good point. The other difference, I think, is that, by (whether intentionally or not) setting itself up as essentially one big mystery, Lost was destined to live or die by how well it solved that mystery. And we all know how it did that...

Whereas Buffy was never really about getting to one specific end. So while it too had its valleys (as any long running show inevitably will), the overall experience comes out better.

In many other series he'd be too saccharine and could end up being the most annoying and disliked character. In this series his determination and never-ending belief that things will turn out alright is refreshingly bright paint on an otherwise dark canvas.

That's a really good point. So many narratives are let down by that annoyingly squeaky clean protagonist, but you never get that with Shu.

I really should watch that again.

As for Trigun, it wouldn't be my favorite show of all time, but it's a pretty damned good one nonetheless. And that one episode (the origin one) would easily make the list of my the top ten favorite single episodes of all time.
