It just bugs me when people try to argue that older Treehouses were more Halloween-y than newer ones when really, it just seems that way because the old ones had a framing sequence set during Halloween.

I mean, the Monkey's paw segment? The Twilight Zone riff where Bart is omnipotent? King Kong? There isn't anything particularly Halloween-y about any of those, but they feel that way because they were given context by the framing sequence.

I read the Treehouse comic each year too. I enjoy usually 2 out 3 stories therein (just like the episodes!). You're right, sometimes they are a lot more intense than the show, which is surprising, even given the lack of TV censors. It isn't like the regular Simpsons comic is noticeably more riske than the show.Austin Gortonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14281239771248780430noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7266470995513648978.post-71513750819170022722008-10-23T09:28:00.000-05:002008-10-23T09:28:00.000-05:00You're right in that these used to be a lot better...You're right in that these used to be a lot better earlier in the series run then later on. Just like the regular episodes I guess. A few nice bits here and there but overall pretty lackluster.

Did you ever read any of the Treehouse of Horror comics that they put out? They do them annually also. Each issue has different big name creators doing basically the same thing as the TV show version of it. The comic seemed to get a little more graphic than the show did though. Probably because you don't have a huge network worrying about censors looking over your shoulder. Also just like the show version, the comic was better several years ago than it is now. Art imitating art I suppose.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
