And I get why it mostly got set aside after the Silver Age: the X-Men can't keep adding new characters to their roster, and eventually, readers want to see familiar villains return rather than new ones.

But I'm surprised it didn't get used more often in the Morrison and post-Morrison era, in which the X-Mansion went from being the home of a dozen or so (at most) mutant operatives to a full-fledged school of mutant students, which should have put the technique back on the table.

I suppose it got hamstringed at that point by the fact that creators were less inclined to use their original creations in Big Two books instead of their creator owned stuff (where they could maintain control of the characters), so there were less "new" mutants for the X-Men to detect and/or fight. Kitty Pryde and Dazzler were during the Dark Phoenix Saga, Karma was MTU #100, and Siryn was in Spider-Woman -- all before MGN #4. Thereafter, everyone just sort of bumps into one another. (Amara comes into contact with the New Mutants on vacation in South America, Doug lives in Salem Center and meets Kitty Pryde off panel, Psylocke meets the X-Men after getting caught up in an adventure, Jubilee follows the X-ladies through a portal ...)

I knew the importance of Cerebro had faded into the background, and of course, Cerebro/finding young mutants would be the centerpiece of the core books in the Phalanx Covenant a year from now, but I guess I hadn't realized just how long it had been.Michaelhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03665503542091489778noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7266470995513648978.post-61396199848326863962020-07-06T11:18:32.804-05:002020-07-06T11:18:32.804-05:00It's weird... I wonder why?

Anyway, I continually find it fascinating that in all their promotional comics (even those written by regular members of the creative team, apparently!), the X-Men go out to meet and recruit new mutants, while they had stopped doing that in the comics long, long ago.Matthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14580725636327122073noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7266470995513648978.post-54873476429197893712020-07-05T14:37:20.370-05:002020-07-05T14:37:20.370-05:00The group of X-Men in this story consist of Cyclop...The group of X-Men in this story consist of Cyclops, Bishop, Rogue, Gambit, Iceman and Jubilee; the inclusion of Bishop & Iceman are curious, considering they weren't regular members of the animated series cast.

It seems like they were trying to use a couple of Gold Team members in case anyone picked up Uncanny. The mini comics were really cool to own since I didn't know anyone else that had them and they were harder to find in price guides. Same thing with the Board Game comic you had to send away from which was a gold covered issue 304 I believe and I didn't know anyone else that had it and it wasn't something in Wizard at the time.

As far as these books, Lims looks much better and I was always a fan of Sinister, even if it was out of character.
