I was just tossing out the prospect that the producers have been dicking us around and that it's not, mainly because there seems to be a growing section of fandom that wants to argue time can be changed on Lost.

I definitely think we're seeing a causality loop in action (like Locke and Richard's compass), as Ben knows and tells Sayid he's a killer because Sayid admitted as much to Ben when he was a boy, and the reason that Sayid admitted it was because Ben convinced him he was a killer, which Ben was able to do because Ben knew Sayid would admit it, because...

And so on (at least we know that when the time comes, Ben will be able to successfully create his Patronus).

Assuming that's true, it would be interesting to re-examine Ben and Sayid's past interactions in light
of it.

Offhand, I'm recalling the second season when we first met Ben as Henry Gale and Sayid spent an episode or two wailing on him; was there anything there that suggested Ben knew about Sayid already? Was Ben already beginning to plant the "killer" seeds in Sayid?

It's also interesting to note that all of the people on Michael's list at the end of Season 2 (Jack, Kate, Sawyer, Hurley) were all Losties that were in the DI in the 70s. Not the only Losties that would travel back in time, but the list was composed entirely of people Ben presumably met as a child.

@Falen: as for the book, it must have been making frequent appearances before I started doing buybacks regularly.

Now, if someone gets a copy of "A Million Little Pieces" or "Beloved" or "Tuesdays With Morrie" while in jail on Lost, I'll recognize it on sight. ;)Austin Gortonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14281239771248780430noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7266470995513648978.post-57302983166660844762009-03-29T13:52:00.000-05:002009-03-29T13:52:00.000-05:00I agree with Dr. Bitz. To me it seems quite obvious that he does this based on the fact that that is what Sayid told him 30 years ago before he shot him. Creating a nice little time loop of Ben crating Sayid, who then creates Ben etc.
And man, we used to get so many used copies of that carlos castenada book in, i recognized it purely on the cover alone.Sarah Ahiershttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02795455714801965956noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7266470995513648978.post-86012284216868575112009-03-28T18:03:00.000-05:002009-03-28T18:03:00.000-05:00I think that time is absolute in the Lost universe...I think that time is absolute in the Lost universe. Which is to say the future we've always seen is the future in which Ben has been shot by Sayid.
That means, Ben has always known that Sayid will someday shoot him. If this is true, and if the writers are correct in saying they have this all planned out, we should look for hints about Ben knowing Sayid will one day shoot a 10-year-old him in past episodes..Dr. Bitzhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13568570859981368717noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7266470995513648978.post-65399977997148974692009-03-27T18:42:00.000-05:002009-03-27T18:42:00.000-05:00My favorite bit (might not be quoting it 100% corr...My favorite bit (might not be quoting it 100% correctly):
Sawyer: "So how're you doing?"
Sayid: "A 10-year-old Benjamin Linus just brought me a chicken sandwich.
