Well, that's what I get for mu...@Blam: !?!?!?!

Well, that's what I get for multitasking (and also not carefully re-reading my responses before posting)...

That's a line from the book I'm working on, to which I was making some revisions while also responding to comments. Apparently my attempt to copy one of the lines of your comment didn't work, so I ended up pasting the last thing I had cut.

Sorry for the confusion. :P

Here's what I was ACTUALLY responding to:

I get the sense that, yes, anyone can perform magic, but certain people have an innate talent or potential for it

I'm fine with that in principal, but I wouldn't mind if the show made that more clear. Then again, I'm anal about in-universe rules when it comes to stuff like that. As I ...
Once Upon a Time: The Miller's Daughter

As I (just) said re last week's Last Week, I'd never made the presumptive connection between Cora and Rumpelstiltskin's signature fairy tale, and in fact I'd begun to wonder if the show would ever bother giving us that story.

Had she been good, or at least neutral, in the episodes leading up this, as Emma and Snow and everyone worked to stop Cora, perhaps eager to reconcile with her mother but reluctant to trust her, only for Cora to die as a result of Snow's actions just as she was about to turn a new leaf with Regina, I could have gotten behind a subsequent plot that had Regina declaring vengeance on everyone and reclaiming her role as the show's villain.

Exactly.

Can anyone do magic, if they feel hard enough?

I get the sense that, yes, anyone can perform magic, but certain people have an innate talent or potential for it — like Cora and Regina, or Emma, who also apparently has a particular bent to her magic (truth-telling). That is indeed a nebulous thing, but it's far from specific to this show. Supernatural has its main protagonists casting spells at times, as well as putting together hex bags and carving or painting protection runes, but there are also witches in the series' mythology who are constant with the magic; I'm not sure if it's a hereditary, mutant, or learned trait/achievement.

Speaking of magic: That protection spell did jack squat at the front door. I get that Cora was weaker and without Regina when she tried to break into the back room, but huge difference.

How I Met Your Mother: The Fortress

I at least appreciated that the resolution to the latest round of "you're engaged now, knock off behavior X" involved Robin admitting that she can't ask Barney to change everything about himself.

More than that she admitted that it had to be part of what she loved about him. So I guess the show deserves some credit for addressing that.

Blamhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07342343767763035991noreply@blogger.com
