That's why Crane and the Horseman awoke at the same time in the present day.

I had no idea Sleepy Hollow was so far south.

Ditto. I've always pictured it as being much further north than it actually is (though I did know it was a real city, I've never actually looked it up on a map). I mean, 30 miles north of NYC? That's a suburb, not a, ahem, sleepy hollow...

Even though I lived very briefly (while very young) in Buffalo, I sometimes forget that "upstate New York", instead of meaning the northern region of the state, pretty much just means anything that's not New York City aka most of the state.

I rewound to be sure. You're gonna bring in the crucifixion squad, maybe?

Heh. I was much too old when I first realized the distinction between those two words, and thus spent far too much time wondering why the cavalry was named after the place where Jesus was crucified...Austin Gortonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14281239771248780430noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7266470995513648978.post-74242997748588801452013-11-17T14:39:35.714-06:002013-11-17T14:39:35.714-06:00Once Upon a Time : Nasty Habits

Not all of the fairy-tale mixing works for me, but this does.

// the most apt mascot for a private college ever //

Ha!

Sleepy Hollow : The Sin Eater

I'm with you on the iffy (or "biffy") climax. The most confounding part is that I don't even recall the blood tie between Crane and the Horseman being established before this. So it really makes no sense to introduce it only to resolve it within the same episode and not throw in some lip service as to why Crane shouldn't just end the threat right now even at the cost of his own life.

I had no idea Sleepy Hollow was so far south. When Abby mentioned a Mets game instead of a Red Sox game, I looked it up — it's 30 miles north of New York. I'd figured it would be somewhere in what we now call New England, Connecticut at the least if not Massachusetts or New Hampshire; then again, I perhaps embarrassingly didn't know until looking it up that Sleepy Hollow was an actual place rather than one invented for Irving's story.

Abby's sister has the most awesome eyebrows. She looks like a younger, prettier Eartha Kitt, but also someone else I can't bring to mind.

So they stopped saying "Revelations" but... "Let us in or we call in the damn calvary." I rewound to be sure. You're gonna bring in the crucifixion squad, maybe?

Blamhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07342343767763035991noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7266470995513648978.post-81415182608711292512013-11-12T16:02:08.052-06:002013-11-12T16:02:08.052-06:00@Jeff: I loved that they increased the amount of ...@Jeff: I loved that they increased the amount of time spent in Asgard and the nine realms.

Ditto. I thought they did a nice job of balancing the various settings.

Also agree that Malekith at least looked pretty cool (ditto the Dark Elf foot soldiers, who were really creepy looking).

That tag looked like something you'd see on Syfy.

I actually found that almost low budget look a little charming, but I'm also not sure it would hold up over the course of a whole film. That said, it was definitely jarring. As much as these movies (especially this one) want us to see the Asgardians as fancy aliens rather than Tolkien-esque gods, it was still weird to suddenly see Sif and Volstaag in this hardcore sci-fi setting. I loved that they increased the amount of time spent in Asgard and the nine realms. And Loki was fantastic. I'll agree that Malekith was a little thin, but I thought he looked great at least. My only real complaint is that now I'm kind of worried about Guardians of the Galaxy. That tag looked like something you'd see on Syfy.Jeffhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14447265712189987074noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7266470995513648978.post-57044367527358985572013-11-11T16:38:45.392-06:002013-11-11T16:38:45.392-06:00@Sarah: Like, really? Honestly, I feel like they threw that criticism in there just to make it slightly less obvious that she wouldn't be going home. I mean, it was the only thing they could come up with to criticize her about, and it was 100% not her fault.

And now i'm excited to watch this week's SHIELD.

I believe it's next week's episode that ties in with the movie (on the 19th). And to temper your excitement, keep in mind that "ties in" could just mean "acknowledges some weird shit went down in London recently". Or, in other words, it could tie in to Thor 2 in the same way this episode tied in to Avengers. :)

How awesome is it that we live in a time where we have all these movies and a TV show weaving together like they should?

It really is. Like I've said, I also love that we have so many superhero movies and shows that we can actually be critically of them, and discuss how some work better than others. It's not just a case of "well, this is all we've got so I kinda have to like it".

My only regret is stupid xmen since it's obvs the closest to my heart.

Yeah, it would be nice if X-Men were more involved in this stuff, obviously, but thankfully First Class helped salvage that franchise after the dual travesty of X3 and Wolverine: Origins, and DoFP looks pretty cool from the trailer. Plus, as is often the case with the comics, the world of the X-Men probably wouldn't fit too well in the cinematic world of the Marvel Studios films, so it's probably for the best.

Also, Arrow is has moved to one of my favorite shows. I think you should check it out sooner rather than later

You're not alone in that sentiment. I've also read some stuff online about it that has me intrigued. Season 1 is on Netflix, so when I finish up either X-Files season 1 or Revenge season 2, I'll probably check it out. Also, i forgot i wanted to bitch about last week and the tongue lashing they gave Nina because her partner sucked. Like, really? It's really Nina's fault her partner was a douche canoe and failed at his dish because of that?

I thought this was the best episode so far for SHIELD for all the reasons you listed. It was also very nice to see both Fitz and Simmons emote in ways other than cheekiness. Both actors did a great job and i loved Caulson being an awesome leader.

We frickin LOVED Thor. Like any faults that i noticed i didn't even care once Loki was on screen. The two of them together MADE that movie. And now i'm excited to watch this week's SHIELD.

How awesome is it that we live in a time where we have all these movies and a TV show weaving together like they should? I never would have guessed this would have been possible ten years ago and yet it is so awesome!
My only regret is stupid xmen since it's obvs the closest to my heart.

Also, Arrow is has moved to one of my favorite shows.
