This is as good a place as any to stop, since everything is mostly wrapped up, with even Magik having some sort of a resolution. The next 2 issues set up Karma leaving and...doesn't ever get followed up here. But they are still good fun issues.

After that? Bridbrain, Gossamyr, the never ending Asgard storyline...some dark days ahead.wwk5dnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7266470995513648978.post-70604526229127395832013-12-13T16:53:27.942-06:002013-12-13T16:53:27.942-06:00@Matt: I might consider this to be Magneto sliding...@Matt: I might consider this to be Magneto sliding back into character after being out of it for so long, but that's all in the eye of the beholder.

I would argue that it's out-of-character even for villainous Magneto (aside from, maybe, the Silver Age Magneto who abused Toad). Hero or villain, Magneto should have a certain nobility about him, and that nobility really isn't on display when he's shrilly yelling at teens to go to their rooms issue after issue.

@angmc43: Could the Marauders simulation (with the New Mutants getting so OWNED) be CC's poke on Louise Simonson's POWER PACK vs. Marauders battle?

I'd never considered that before, but it's possible.

I think the soccer game that ends this story is going to be the event where Roberto accidentally injures Sam, leading to his departure in the FALLEN ANGELS series.

That's a nice touch. I've never actually read Fallen Angels before, so I didn't know they synched up so closely.

Yes, there's two more CC issues (I would put the Impossible Man Annual before this story), but I think the ending here, with Illyana rejoining her friends and Magneto looking on with hope, as the perfect finish to the CC run.

I do quite like the little Hellion two-parter Claremont goes out on, but considering Sunspot and Warlock are gone for it, I agree the ending of this issue makes for a nice ending to Claremont's run.

Oh, and I note the Impossible Man annual occurring chronologically before this issue as well, and will say as much in that post. I just fudged the timing of that issue's post on account of my mini-vacation for the holidays. At any rate, it's the last activity for the nine members before half of them start leaving.

Some have criticized Magneto's decision to let Illyana solve her problems with S'ym on her own (rather then helping her do away with the demon then and there). But wouldn't Illyana slaying S'ym help her dark side gain dominance?

I think the soccer game that ends this story is going to be the event where Roberto accidentally injures Sam, leading to his departure in the FALLEN ANGELS series.

To me, this is when the New Mutants ended (and where I stopped my Google NM discuss-a-thon a decade ago). Yes, there's two more CC issues (I would put the Impossible Man Annual before this story), but I think the ending here, with Illyana rejoining her friends and Magneto looking on with hope, as the perfect finish to the CC run. Too bad it's all going downhill from here.angmc43@hotmail.comhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15379700547226493861noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7266470995513648978.post-78064356462521764192013-12-12T14:20:04.219-06:002013-12-12T14:20:04.219-06:00"Roberto notes that Magneto uses his magnetic..."Roberto notes that Magneto uses his magnetic power to nullify gravity around himself, enabling him to fly."

Oh, that's how that works!

"...in the future, it will become increasingly more tedious and out-of-character."

I might consider this to be Magneto sliding back into character after being out of it for so long, but that's all in the eye of the beholder.Matthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14580725636327122073noreply@blogger.com
