That scene with Shireen. I mean, like you s...Yeesh. That scene with Shireen. I mean, like you say, they've been building towards it all season, but still. Yeesh. Nothing like leaving us in a situation where we get to root for the side that flays people alive or the side that burns their children alive...

They were able to do this because...they know the land better?

Yeah, that was lame. I get that they needed something to be the final push for Stannis, but that was a weak explanation. And I'm sick of Ramsay.

Prince Doran is like, “Bees are on the what now?”

Ha!

Arya is nearly kicked out of the brothel but, luckily, a prostitute is hungry for her clam...er...oysters. That's more accurate and sounds...better?

Heh.

After numerous close calls (including a man standing over Jorah with sword and taking an inordinately long time to strike before getting hit from behind) Jorah emerges victorious.

I forget who, but someone (maybe Sepinwall) pointed out Jorah's dive roll into a killing blow was a classic Kirk maneuver.

Then, like the Jedi, Daenerys and company are saved! But their green savior is not Yoda but instead, Drogon the dragon.

Unfortunately, no one declared that the condition of the party was "over", for the benefit of Dany and her group.

I'm not going to enjoy Arya pretending to be a hooker (at least, that's what I'm assuming will happen).

Mmm ditto. The only thing worse than the way GoT makes us suffer with its characters is when its really obvious in foreshadowing how they're going to suffer (see also: Sansa this season).

I'm not sure if he recognizes her or is just attracted to her.

And if he did recognize her, I wasn't sure if it was a "that girl looks familiar?" thing, or more of a "hey, isn't that Arya Stark?".

Seems like a plan that doesn't need a whole lot of recon.

I'd guess the recon was less about being necessary and more about Jaqen putting Arya through her paces. Like, "if you needed to do recon, here's how it's done" kind of thing.

Did Jaqen believe that the "the thin man" simply wasn't interested in her oysters or did he know Arya was lying? Was Arya running into Meryn Trant part of Jaqen's plan all along?

Huh. I assumed he knew she was lying but let it go for now, and never even considered having her run into Trant may have been his plan all along, but I like that idea.

Also, I wanted more buffoonry from Mace. Like, I was expecting a scene with the bankers where they were all "we're calling in the crowns debt and will be funding all the Lannisters enemies now". Cersei sending Mace away was clearly to get him out of the way, but it also seemed like he needed to do something about the debt. As far as we can tell, he just showed up for a light lunch.

We may (rightfully) resent Stannis for what he did but, for all you Jaime lovers out there, keep in mind Jaime attempted pretty much the exact same thing way back in the first episode.

Also, that Shireen is hardly the first person Stannis has burned alive, merely the first one we actually cared about. And she's also not the first family member of his that he killed, either. I mean, I didn't like what he did, because I want to like Stannis (and am also not pro-burning children), but the man was hardly a saint before this.

Once Selyse becomes the voice of compassion and reason you know things have gone awry.

Right?

Austin Gortonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14281239771248780430noreply@blogger.com
