Nah, I'd say you put more.

"a secret cabal of immortal mutants isn't a terrible idea in and of itself"

To be fair, and all kidding aside, there were some good ideas that came out of the X-office during this time, it's just the execution of those ideas was just...not good.

"It's unclear if Liefeld always intended for this to be the rationale behind Sunspot leaving the team and going to hang out with Gideon"

It is hard to say who came up with the Externals, Liefeld, Nicieza, or both. Nicieza (or someone in editorial tasking Nicieza) does bring them back a few times and tries to make them work. It isn't until Nicieza is gone that Marvel finally gets rid of them...

The bigger question is, is the reintegration of Sunspot and Rictor due to Liefeld, Nicieza, or both? Especially given how quickly Liefeld wrote them out once he took over New Mutants. Of course, in Rictor's case, if Rahne is no longer in Genosha, his reason for staying there is gone.

"With Liefeld gone (aside from the cover and plot)"

Well, not this issue's cover...

"Like, how do Pacella and Panosian not get fired for trying to pass that off as professional art, let alone get paid for it and see it published in one of Marvel's top-selling series?"

Honestly, fans back then were dumb enough to pay for knock-off art in his style. Jim Lee's too. Hell, both guys founded studios at Image that were made up of guys who did bad and cheap knock-offs in their style.

But yeah, this issue is a mess to look at it. Capullo can't get here fast enough.
wwk5dnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7266470995513648978.post-58657615802354412892016-08-26T10:23:26.078-05:002016-08-26T10:23:26.078-05:00// this issue opens with him still fighting the ML...
// this issue opens with him still fighting the MLF, then coming face to face with Stryfe again //

I didn’t notice that but I’m not allotting much brainpower on retention of what’s going on in X-Force.

// he also orders Sauron & Masque taken to the morgue for autopsies, despite it being pretty clear what killed them //

Yeah, I thought that was weird too.

// Cable says that Externals are immortal on one page, yet also that they can die, but are simply harder to kill than most, on another. //

The distinction I often see and that I’d make myself is that “immortal” refers to living forever, not dying or decaying from the passage of time, so long as one is not killed by external means, as immortality does not necessary confer absolute invulnerability from harm.

Blamhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07342343767763035991noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7266470995513648978.post-77020215783174150932016-08-26T07:58:46.552-05:002016-08-26T07:58:46.552-05:00Rictor's dialogue got pretty Gambitized there,...Rictor's dialogue got pretty Gambitized there, didn't it?
-PushpawAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7266470995513648978.post-12919641365526687562016-08-26T06:48:21.839-05:002016-08-26T06:48:21.839-05:00Good lord, Mark Pacella!
