I still enjoy it, but I know there are just some things it's never going to do/do better.

@Blam: I didn't mind that it happened, but how it happened wasn't quite satisfying

Agreed.

You did not.

Apparently, I did. Though in my defense, I didn't see it until you pointed out. :)

@Matt: Walkers/biters are great and all, but having a sentient, thinking villain out there as well should add a new level to the show.

Agreed. If anything, I wouldn't mind if they added a few more human antagonists.

"And then at the end of that, it was just Tyreese and someone else who found her."

Ah, that probably explains that odd scene where Tyreese went into the room where the woman and children were hanging out, talked to Sasha, and then left, despite it being Sasha's turn to take watch. It seemed to be setting something up, but then the next time we saw him, he was on the wall with Sasha when Rick arrived.

It sounds like that scene was setting up the original ending, in which Tyreese discovered Andrea.

Thanks for sharing that quote. Always fun to hear the behind-the-scenes stuff.

Now that they aren't dealing with the Governor, I assume that may still be the plan.

Yeah, but as Blam pointed out, it seemed like Woodbury already had gardens. Or at least some source of food (I seem to recall seeing people milling about in the background gardening and/or with food), as well as power, running water and the ability to sleep in a bed in a room and not a jail cell.

I'd imagine it might take more people than they have to maintain the upkeep of the city so they might have to shrink it's boundaries, and I'm sure the prison is more defensible from an assault like the Governors, but Woodbury at least seemed able to keep out the Walkers so long as someone kept an eye on the fences, and it doesn't have a gaping hole in the perimeter through which zombies can wander inside.

@mortsleam: Allen's son Ben was shot by Merle when he was trying to take out the Governor. I didn't notice until somebody pointed it out to me.

I completely missed that as well. Thanks!

Austin Gortonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14281239771248780430noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7266470995513648978.post-36380888648654432432013-04-05T13:59:30.597-05:002013-04-05T13:59:30.597-05:00mortsleam -- "Allen's son Ben was shot by...mortsleam -- "Allen's son Ben was shot by Merle when he was trying to take out the Governor. Now that they aren't dealing with the Governor, I assume that may still be the plan.

I wouldn't be surprised if, when next season begins, another year or so has passed and the prison is fortified, they have a garden, and are in a much better place. Of course that won't last long, though.Matthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14580725636327122073noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7266470995513648978.post-34420912249120739882013-04-03T11:22:38.299-05:002013-04-03T11:22:38.299-05:00I like that the Governor survived, and as you say,...I like that the Governor survived, and as you say, he is now a full-on supervillain, so hopefully he can be a recurring antagonist as the series goes on. Walkers/biters are great and all, but having a sentient, thinking villain out there as well should add a new level to the show.

Agreed on Andrea, also. Even in her stupidest moments, I hoped she would eventually see the light and rejoin the "good guys". But just like several characters before her, she was killed off before her time.

"Also, her death would be less frustrating if she'd just occasionally glanced at the dying/dead Milton while fishing for the pliers, instead of dramatically staring at him for long periods of time while doing nothing to help her situation."

Totally agree! When Milton told her, "you need to hurry" about halfway through the episode, I practically shouted at my TV, "Yes! You do!!"

Also, I read last night that there were several re-shoots on the scenes involving Andrea and Milton. The scenes were re-written by an uncredited Scott Dimple, who will be next year's showrunner. Per Dallas (Milton) Roberts:

Originally, the beating scene that started the episode wasn’t there. Originally, I showed up and was led into the room where Andrea was and I took the tools out – the instruments of torture that were laid on the table — and then he shot me in the stomach, completely unexpectedly. And then I was left to bleed out in the same idea basically — you’re going to kill her now. There was a lot more of Milton trying to open the door and him trying to free her from the chains. And then there was a section where he was going to wrap the chain around the neck and try to choke her to death before he turned so she wouldn’t have to deal with Walker Milton, or Biter Milton, as it were.

And then at the end of that, it was just Tyreese and someone else who found her. Rick and Daryl and Michonne weren’t there. So it was essentially the same idea, except you saw me taking chunks out of Laurie Holden in that version. And then they called us back a few months later to reshoot it and made all those changes. So now you’re not sure if I’ve gotten her until after that door opens, and I think that’s probably why they did it.

The original article is at Ain't it Cool News, but what I said above is pretty much all of it. There's also a picture of zombie Milton which looks super creepy for some reason (like creepier than a lot of other zombies on the show).

Anyway, next year should be interesting. If there's a conflict between Rick and Carl, I hope young Chandler Riggs is up for whatever material they give him to work with.

Also, I felt like I had missed something: the guy who was originally with Tyrese, who went to the prison and was the first or second to be killed in the Governor's rampage, said something like, "They killed my son!" When did that happen?!? I've seen every episode this season and have no recollection of that.Matthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14580725636327122073noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7266470995513648978.post-89130011840305913302013-04-02T15:22:18.329-05:002013-04-02T15:22:18.329-05:00by leaving the Governor free to return another day...
by leaving the Governor free to return another day, his transformation into an out-and-out supervillain thus complete, it ended the season on a whimper instead of a bang

I didn't mind that it happened, but how it happened wasn't quite satisfying. He wouldn't go back to Woodbury at all, even for a pitstop, when he could clearly get there before Rick's group (assuming he thought they'd be in pursuit at all)?

Like usual, I agree with most of your assessment of the episode and where it left the series, from Andrea to Milton to what for me was a far too on-the-nose moment of clarity/revelation/reward when Rick looks up and Lori's not there.

I really didn't buy that Rick's group wouldn't set up in Woodbury rather than bring the remainder of the Woodbury residents to the prison. Despite the bad vibes Woodbury surely carries for everyone, and the admitted protection that the prison affords in concrete walls and chain-link fences and a "walker moat" out in the yards, Woodbury has green areas for gardening and relative creature comforts and more provisions than could be packed into a bus. Plus there's just the logistics of moving everyone and everything that you'd want to bring from the town to the prison rather than the reverse, since multiple trips back to Woodbury means multiple risks that the Governor has returned in the interim.

That said, the moment of her actual death was nicely shot.

You did not.

Blamhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07342343767763035991noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7266470995513648978.post-16503951180318212362013-04-02T11:15:34.745-05:002013-04-02T11:15:34.745-05:00You said everything we felt as well.
