Randomness humor wasn't nearly as pervasive back them, so maybe it stands for something.

For some reason the "I'll miss you, darling" in Lee's note royally creeps me out.

Doug's 100% right. I'd have him and Warlock training to work as a team, Warlock being worn in the field by Doug as armor just about whenever he wasn't a vessel of transport, every session that Doug wasn't training in hand-to-hand combat on his own. I get that Magneto is just being depicted as haughty or clueless on that score, of course. Doug's so mad that he manifests a Xavier's-logo jacket out of thin air just to be able to throw it in anger.

So here's a thought that just occurred to me as I watch the New Mutants fight Magneto, who as their teacher is unlikely to be a foe they actually face in battle (later reversals of plot/character notwithstanding): Why do the X-Men and New Mutants usually face generic robots and automated weapons in the Danger Room instead of simulacra of established foes they're apt to reencounter and robots outfitted to mimic the powers of other supervillains or alien beings they might face?

Also, Claremont as writer is perfectly capable of dropping them into a Wizard of Oz scenario, of course, and it would've made for a fun RPG module, but it seems strange to have such a thing programmed into the Danger Room.

I like Sienkiewicz's inks over Wilshire's pencils when he's able to impose his style a bit more, like on many of the close-ups of faces, and when he can correct some instances of her iffy perspectives and proportions. Overall, however, most especially on the cover, the art is pretty goshawful.

Blamhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07342343767763035991noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7266470995513648978.post-28140444400352251682013-07-17T14:44:13.000-05:002013-07-17T14:44:13.000-05:00@Dr. Bitz: Warlock's been around for a while. ...@Dr. Bitz: Warlock's been around for a while. You'd think this would have come up before.

Yeah, you'd think so. Especially since he "eats" by absorbing the "lifeglow" of things. Seems like it'd be pretty natural to explain human eating in the course of telling him he can't do that wily-nilly. I was going to comment on the various "covering up" of the girls, and plum forgot, so thanks for mentioning it! Mag...Check out the cover! Magneto in an X-uniform!

Magneto is now the headmaster. He's pretty badarse here, quickly defeating the New Mutants, THEN telling them this is just a warm-up to the real game (the exhausted students then comment what a hard time the X-Men must have had dealing with him). Then he goes wrath-of-god on those college bums.

Magneto telling off the educationally-privileged; later in CLASSIC X-MEN, CC would characterize Magneto having a strong thirst in knowledge.

Magneto ricocheting Karma's possession; one of the few examples of Magneto's mental talents, although this would be retconned away (the psi-proof helmet). Wonder how he could ricochet it; perhaps he made some 'magnetic static funnel' that forced Karma's mental energies onto Sunspot?

Although it's cool Bill S. is back, I felt the inking was all wrong.

The coloring is rather off...it appears the colorist thought the locker room drawings of the girls were too inappropriate, so Illyana's scantily-clad form is recolored as a bustier & stockings, and Amara's bare backside is shaded. Then again, considering how Magneto's "M" costume (penultimate appearance) has the emblem missing, perhaps the colorist was having an off day.angmc43@hotmail.comhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15379700547226493861noreply@blogger.com
