It really does help across the board, good and bad sketches. He shows up frequently on Letterman, always with "bits" prepared ("bits" that frankly, unlike say Tom Hanks' or Steve Martin's, are very rarely funny).

Double-blech from me to Taran Killam as "that overgrown man-child" for sure.

I'm feeling a definite trend this season of sketches wrapping up more quickly, which is a big positive for both good one and bad.

Blamhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07342343767763035991noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7266470995513648978.post-61157199192661715532013-10-15T12:06:38.005-05:002013-10-15T12:06:38.005-05:00@Dr. Bitz: You're being kinder than I would ha...@Dr. Bitz: You're being kinder than I would have. Rest assured, I did not think this was a good episode.

Did I ever tell you about this girl I met in college who once said, "Did I ever tell you about the time Paul McCartney serenaded me?"

I don't remember you pitching it to me like that, but I do remember you telling me about the girl who casually mentioned her sister was dating Bruce Willis.

@Matt: I dunno, I find Kirby pretty funny.

Of the two, I definitely like Kirby more. It just doesn't do much for me overall (though, like Dr. Bitz, as the owner of two cats, that could just be because it strikes a little too close to home).Austin Gortonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14281239771248780430noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7266470995513648978.post-18296293182362622302013-10-15T11:00:51.179-05:002013-10-15T11:00:51.179-05:00I dunno, I find Kirby pretty funny.

Halfway through this episode I thought, "Oh my God...this is TERRIBLE!" And I knew it wasn't going to get better because if the front half of the show's sketches were that bad then they'll really be reaching by the end. (As evidenced by the eMeth ad that I assume was put there because so many sketches bombed during screening they were left without enough content to fill out an entire show.)

Anyway, I did have the same analysis as you did regarding Bruce Willis. I thought he did well. This show was entirely a failure of the writers. Unless Bruce Willis is actually a douche behind the scenes and was nixing great sketches for dumb reasons...which may explain why he hasn't be on since 1989.

Did I ever tell you about this girl I met in college who once said, "Did I ever tell you about the time Paul McCartney serenaded me?" And I'm all, "Uh...no...but you should immediately." And the next line out of her mouth was "Well, my sister was dating Bruce Willis at the time." And the thing is to this day I believe her. She didn't seem like a liar and her story had merit. It also made me realize that some people will simply have more exciting of a life than I will. Umm....what were we talking about again?

"This episode brought back/reminded me they existed two recurring sketches that do very little for me: Kirby, the random guy in a room full of toughs who really likes his kitty, and whatever-the-hell it's called when Taran Killam plays that overgrown man-child who laughs at someone's verbal screw-up. "

I dislike both of these too. But maybe Kirby just hits a little too close to home for me considering I was watching this sketch with my cat (whom on numerous occasions I've declared the cutest cat in the world) asleep on my lap.Dr. Bitzhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13568570859981368717noreply@blogger.com
