X-aminations in December 2017

The year winds down with something of a whimper, as reviews shift to weekly for December, due to a combination of general holiday/end-of-year busy-ness and a desire to get further back on schedule after a rocky autumn. I also decided I didn't want to split "Bloodties" over the holiday break I was already planning on giving myself when I drew up the second half schedule last summer, so I've shifted some stuff around to move the beginning of that into 2018 (the downside being that the final chapter of "Fatal Attractions" gets pushed back further too, but given how late Excalibur #71 shipped initially, that seems appropriate).

Anyways, here's what I'll be reviewing in December, including the second '93 solo X-character limited series, the final in a long string of regular Marvel Comics Presents Wolverine stories, the second series of Marvel Masterpieces cards, and the conclusion to Tom DeFalco's unofficial "Thor vs. Juggernaut" trilogy.

December 6: Sabretooth #1-4

December 13: Marvel Comics Presents #137-142 (Wolverine Story)

December 20: Unstacking the Deck: Marvel Masterpieces Series II

December 27: Thunderstrike #2

  1. Wait, I read EXCALIBUR 71 the other night and now you're telling me I need to remember what happened in it for a whole month?! I was never very good at that even when I read this stuff as it was coming out!

    1. You could do as I do more often than not (albeit unintentionally) and read issues under examination after the posts on them go up. Which is not exactly a foolproof approach, even apart from lagging behind in the ensuing discussion; I read the Iron Fist run you covered a couple of years after you wrote about it but several months later I still haven’t finished going through your posts — to say nothing of your New Teen Titans series, despite how glad I was that you did that. So... never mind, yeah.

    2. Yeah, I tried that with the "Force in Focus" posts, reading the issue the week/day of the post -- and I fell behind on those last December!! Reading issues in advance is the only way I can manage, I think.

    3. Ha! Those are the only posts whose reading I’d regularly get to in advance — only to watch Saturdays go by with no joy. Seriously, though, which I was not being above just as I took you to not be in the comment to which I replied, staying just ahead of what’s about to be covered is preferable to me as well. Like doing a single load of laundry is, theoretically, preferable to letting it pile up; no surprise, I suck at that also.

  2. Adding any new Christmas film/TV/media blogs next month? I'm probably going to add a comment on several of your old XMAS blogs, so just give a check around the old threads.

    1. No plans this year, unfortunately - at some point, I really want to do something where I review Christmas/holiday related comics throughout the month, but haven't found the time for that yet.

If you're a podcast listener, though, A Very Special Episode (the podcast Dr. Bitz and I are cohosts of) is doing four Christmas episodes this year (one per week through Christmas), so you can get a little TV-focused holiday fix that way.

I get alerted when any new comments appear on any post, no matter how old, so comment away!
