One Sentence Reviews

It's time for some one sentence reviews...apocalypse edition!

The Walking Dead Book 1 (Graphic Story): I didn't like the beginning of this comic (too fast paced with low character development) but the story really started to grow on me.
The Walking Dead (TV Series): I would say this is my favorite new show on television but this quality program deserves better praise than that.
Fallout: New Vegas (Video Game): It would be a great game but all the bugs knock it down to just good.
The Road (Movie): If happiness and optimism is your sickness then this movie is your cure.
World War Z (Novel): Going into this book I expected a hokey zombie novel but instead I got what can only be described as great literature.
The Cape (TV Series): OK, so this TV series has nothing to do with the end of humanity but a show this bad has to be a sign of the apocalypse, right?

  2. but the story really started to grow on

That's good to hear. I need to check those out at some point.

    Ha!

It would be a great game but all the bugs knock it down to just good.

Like, flaws in the game, or legitimate software bugs?

    Cuz the later's just crazy.

  3. Yeah, The Road was a book i wished i hadn't read, since it was so depressing.
And World War Z is so awesome! I hope the movie does it justice

  4. @Anne - I believe you're referring to Viggo Mortenson. You do see his ass, if that does anything for you.

I got really excited when I heard they were making a World War Z movie. But after I saw this on Wikiepedia:

"Marc Forster signed on to direct, and described the film as reminiscent of 1970s conspiracy thrillers like All the President's Men. Straczynski, however, identified 2002 spy film The Bourne Identity as an appropriate comparison."

A little piece of me died.

@Teebore - Legitimate software bugs. If I plan to play for a few hours I know the game is most likely going to freeze up at least once. Which causes me to get up from the couch and restart the X-Box...that's precious calories I'm wasting.

I suppose it's some sort of testimate to the game that I've stuck with it.

  5. This is fun! I love WWZ, and I found the Zombie Survival Guide to be just plain old good planning. A prudent buy.

You should watch "A Boy and his Dog". Creepy, weird, post-apocalyptic movie with a cult following. I need to say again that it's weird and has old 70's porn clips in it.

    Understood.

That's weird. I (perhaps naively) just assumed that major game releases like that were unlikely to be bug-free.

But I suppose bugs have never stopped major software corporations from rolling out new stuff, so I shouldn't be surprised...

  7. yes- Viggo Mortenson.
As i was writing it i was thinking "something's not right about this..." but i was too lazy to go look it up (or even go to the main blog page and look at the pic of the movie)
Also, the point stands- too depressing!

Also- i don't think we've ever had a game freeze up on our Xbox- just red ring of death. Weird

@Joan- we have A Boy and His Dog on our Netflix queue- we'll have to watch it sooner rather than later

  8. ...i don't understand how World War Z could be made to be like Bourne Identity. That makes me sad. How hard would it be to make it like a fake documentary? A fauxcumentary? (i don't like the term mockumentary here because i want no mocking)

  9. @Anne: I've had games freeze before. (Although not as much as with Fallout: New Vegas) Usually it's with big Action/RPG titles.

@Sarah: Of course the World War Z movie should be done in documentary style. (When I was reading it I was already getting ideas of how it could be turned into a movie.)
But making World War Z a fake documentary would make sense and the next time Hollywood does something that makes sense would be the first.
